Many congratulations and a big thank you to all delegates who participated in and contributed so much to this year’s highly successful 26th annual FACE conference which took place last week from the 3rd to the 5th July.
Hosted so fantastically by Sheffield Hallam University the conference attracted delegates not only from all parts of the UK but also from across the globe. Delegates presented an impressive selection of papers, workshops and posters providing a rich blend of practice, policy and research all connected to the main conference themes.
The conference title this year was “Delivering the Public Good of Higher Education-Widening Participation, Place and Lifelong Learning.” As well as offering an excellent starting point for all the debate and knowledge exchange that took place this title also foregrounded the work that FACE has been supporting over the twenty six years the conference has been operating. By awarding two sponsored full fee-waiver conference places to “early careers researchers and practitioners” FACE is also committed to supporting innovative practice and scholarship going forward.
The annual publication was officially launched at the conference during the lunch period on Thursday. We were joined at the launch not only by several of the authors but also by Mahmuna Hussain a graphic design student from Leeds Arts University who designed this years amazing book covers. Copies of the publication can be purchased on-line either through the FACE website or ordered directly through Aga, the FACE Administrator at: Forum for Access and Continuing Education firstname.lastname@example.org
The Gala Dinner was a memorable occasion for sure as it was held in the wonderful Sheffield City Cathedral. Great food and an amazing band added to a special evening enjoyed by all. I completely agree with one delegate I met who said “Not only was this the best conference I have attended it is also the most friendly and welcoming as well. With great keynote speakers and a really enjoyable social programme. I will be back next year!”
Finally, during the conference delegates raised an amazing £550 through the conference raffle which this year was donated to the Sheffield Young Carers Charity.
Thank you to all delegates for your generosity.
